Back at Llangynidr
It`s so hard not to miss bits out. But I will often need to go back. Some things are important in my story, so should not be lost. I`m going back to when we lived in Llangynidr, It was the time when I was clearing all the dead Elms from Glanusk estate. I was on my way home one evening, coming up from Crickhowell on the back road. Approaching the bridge that crossed the canal, near to the game keepers cottage, I spotted a van up ahead, and two burly lads, there, Loading my pulpwood length`s into the back of their van. Pulling in behind them and getting out of my truck, I said," Hey, fella`s you can put all that back where you found it, that`s my lively hood your taking. All I got back was," F**k off, before you get a good pasting," Well, Just how blessed was I. Looking up the road, I saw a police car come over the bridge, coming down towards us. So stepping out into the road I waved them down, stopping right along side these lads, the two constables got out from their car. Yes, a big sigh of relief for me, I explained that these two fella`s were stealing my wood. Immediately, they were told, unload it, and put it all back. They did not like it, but did like they were told. I did not want them to get into trouble, so would not press charges. The constable wanted to get something on them and looked all around their van to see if he could find fault. Finding nothing wrong, they were sent on their way with a caution. It was the time of the Miners strike, so I quest they were trying to make a few bob for themselves. Often along the roadside where there was a good verge, I would stack my pulpwood or cordwood that was there to be loaded by the Haulier off to the Pulp mill or be a bulk delivery of firewood for some one. Charlie Amoss, Hauld for me, I would hire him when there was a good load ready. He had a hyab on his truck, so no man handling. Backin time, we used to have to load ever stick by hand, Loads of twenty yo thirty tons. Very hard work and on a warm dusty day, with sweat running, It was not fun. I had a good many loads from the elms, It gave me a nice living.
